W3. What is globalization? Kim mina

What is globalization?

Globalization is not limited. For example, politics, society, culture, etc. We can feel globalization in many fields. Globalization is very general and concrete because it deals with many aspects of the world. However, there have been many attempts to analyze the concept of globalization clearly and systematically. There was also a debate in the process. Still, the debate is ongoing. The reason is the difference of ‘Perspective'. The definition of globalization differs for each country. Globalization from the perspective of developing countries and globalization from the perspective of developed countries are very different. In conclusion, it is difficult to define globalization as a single concept.
After the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the definition  of globalization was written in academia. Since the collapse of communism, the definition of globalization has begun to be recognized by academics and people. In other words, globalization began among those who took the ultimate economic position in the world, and mentioned the ultimate view of capitalism.

Global consciousness has spread with the widespread violence by WTO, After World Trade Organization and International Monetary Fund appeared. As the protests against the globalization of capitalism grows rapidly, there is an interpretation that the movement itself is a part of globalization. Meanwhile, since the early 1990s, more affluent countries have developed policies favoring open markets, free trade, deregulation, and privatization.

Globalization can be seen anywhere from political, economic, and cultural aspects. But we can’t say “what is more important?”. Factors such as environmental and ecological changes are not excluded. Even human concerns about the environment can be called globalization. In conclusion, globalization is the increasing connectivity of international exchanges. It means that there is an increase in mutual exchange between countries, governments, individuals and organizations. Globalization does not only mean the exchange of visible things. It also includes non-material things such as ideas, information and symbols. In the end, globalization can mean not only each country connected by a link, but also a big country.

This text refers to 'multiple-cultures’ in globalization. People are aware that national identity is growing ever since the beginning of the 20th century. In other words, the concept of national identity is said to be globalized. As multicultural countries increase, there are exist advantages and disadvantages. However, we are particularly concerned about the problems of multicultural society. While there are obvious benefits to the coexistence of diverse and exciting cultures, it is clear that there is a view that conflict is the cause of multiculturalism.

What was interesting about this part is that in the preceding text, globalization can be viewed from the political, economic and cultural point of view. The problem with 'multicultural society' is that cultural globalization affects the extent of political and economic globalization. He mentioned the impact of McDonald's on the world and was interested in spreading US culture to specific societies and other regions. In other words, we are more interested in cultural differences in globalization and agree that we are conscious of what is not a more important factor.

According to this article, globalization can not be clearly defined. It is because every individual, every country has different definition. So where does begin the controversy about the 'multicultural society' in our society? We are unaware of it. The culture of developed countries is relatively superior. So how can we tell about the cultural differences that are currently the most problematic in globalization? Does it mean that the culture of the oppressed developing countries is challenging the cultures of the developed countries?
