W6. Cultural Globalization / 2013051644 Sun-bo Sim

1. Summary

Influence and importance of culture in globalization
Globalization is a complex process that integrates acceleration and global connectivity. This global connectivity is an important factor in globalization. Connectivity defines the use of communication means.
As connectivity increases, the world now has an exceptionally high degree of interdependence.
understanding helps us to keep in mind the multidimensional complexity of the process and the institution of the global capitalist market, that is the crucial element.
The capitalist system has absolute influence in the world. Capitalism is important but should not be mired in economic reductionism. The reason for this is that economic reductionism operates with unrealistic notions of economics.
So The view of globalization needs to be viewed based on culture. To explore the effects of culture in globalization, it is to identify the distribution of iconic things in the global marketplace. Until now, the influence of culture has become a form of westernization and cultural imperialism in globalization. This form of influence is negative. Because the culture of true meaning is is to generate meaning in life.. Culture is a fundamental context in which human organs can be interpreted and initiated as well as the context of events that can be interpreted meaningfully. Cultural meaning and interpretations constantly motivate people with individual choices and actions individually and collectively.
The influence of cultures in globalization is to determine how culturally communicated regionally will bring about the consequences of globalization.
In the course of globalization, the world will lead to a single global culture. However, it does not mean the unification of economic and political matters is a unified culture and a growing number of connections. Clearly, the present world is not entirely connected to a fully connected society, and there are still places that are not culturally connected. Such a place is called the Third World, proving that the existence of globalization does not involve everything.
Nevertheless, Western researchers argue that globalization is a trend toward global cultures covering everything.
To see the culture of globalization, it is not the view of the traditional Western influences, but from a new perspective. Through history, one can prevent certain cultures from calling a particular culture as unjust generalization.

Deterritorialization
This is a new way of thinking about globalization in a new way, not through globalization, but by understanding the effects of globalization in a particular localities The concept of deterritorialization refers to the loss of a natural relationship to geographical and social territory. As a result of deterritorialization, cultural experiences between cultural experiences and geographical boundaries will prove to be the most far-reaching effect of cultural globalization.

Cosmopolitanism and Cultural identity
The idea of liberal and international politics is worthy of serious acceptance. It's meant to clarify the value of the human community, and ultimately to reconcile. This is a dilemma for the human interaction of human interaction and the wider discourse on human rights and the wider vision of the world's solidarity. On the other hand, it is an equally attractive principle of respect for regional contexts and customs, cultural autonomy, cultural identity, and respect for the integrity of the ' sovereignty. This dilemma can be solved through cultural identity.
Cultural identity consists of the definition of a self and a community centered on political differentiation. As a result, globalization is probably the most important factor in creating and generating cultural identity.

2. What was interesting?

Reading the article, I learned several new concepts. The influence of culture in globalization has already been known by other classes in general. I already knew that the influence of culture in globalization Because I learned from class in the past. The first concept I learnt from this article is Deterritorialization and COSMOPOLISM.
First, I combined the notion of deterritorialization with the culture of globalization. The notion of deterritorialization when I think is the act of acting according to individual values, rather than being bound by local and national behavior or culture. So, as I think, the world's physical distance is reduced.
The second concept I learned through this article was Cosmopolitanism. In fact, despite the fact that I first encountered this concept and read it, I did not fully understand this concept.

3. Discussion Point

While reading this article, I wanted to discuss about Westernization with my professors and students. It is true that the globalization of the world is central to Westernization. Also It is true that globalization, which is conducted in this way, does not include the same regions as the third world. What I would like to say here is that the future direction of globalization is beyond the influence of the Westernization. I predict that I will not be able to escape the effects of Westernization. Because although there are some good directions to look at globalization, it is still an advanced country that has a lot of influence on the world.

  1. I also think that Westernization will continue. Because developed countries will not let Westernization stop. Western culture has a powerful influence in the world. In the process, a lot of wealth is created and they gained profits through it. In this situation, it is strange that developed countries abandon Westernization. So, I think we should devise measures to prevent cultural colonization through Westernization.
