In the global
village, relationship with nation and other nations is not what it used to be.
Globalization has changed a lot of people’s thought and sense of who they are
or where they live. Then do globalization makes people’s life meaningful? I
think it does.
At the very
first of the reading, the author said globalization is a multidimensional
processes that occurs within the different field of economy, politics,
technology, environment, and culture as like former reading we read. He mentioned there is flow that connectivity
pretty much defines our communication technology around the globalization.
Globalization
simply as "complex connectivity," the expansion of social ties across
the planet. As we travel more easily through space, interact with other across
vast distances, receive information from near and far, our sense of who
"we" are necessarily changes as well. At the midst of
globalization, there is a capitalistic economy. It should be contained to
understand cultural globalization. But you don’t have to see capitalistic
economic as superior than process of globalization.
Many
scholars say economy will lead to globalization. But it doesn’t mean the world’s
economy, politics, and culture will be unified or same. In our
globe, globalization is not ‘global’ action. So called ‘Third world’ countries
can be seen as unglobalization country. So we should think globalization as
even process that it occurs everywhere in the world.
Then
author claimed about de-territorialization as other concept of
globalization. We need to know the concept of a ‘culture’ connect with
particularity and location called ‘territory’. Then why the author said
deterritorialization with saying about globalization? He wanted to say, “If
globalization is spread of complex socialeconomic connections across distance,
then deterritorialization refers to the reach of this connectivity into the
localities in which everyday life is conducted and experienced”. I would like
to say this globalization is being a big village.
2.What was interesting point?
The most interesting point globalization could destroy cultural identity. The author said globalization is also seen as a threat to cultural identity.
3. Discussion point.
Is globalization a real threat to culture? I think many culture have been created by globalization. Of course, many culture might have been destroyed. But I think It couldn't be seen as threat.
