1. How would we define globalization?

According to the dictionary, Globalization means that the world is moving toward a single one system as an increasing interdependence in international society. I think the world is combined together as an united nation. It means that the world’s borders are weakening and the world’s society is uniting. Therefore, it means that the whole world is connected to one another and interdependence to other countries is stronger. So, connection and interdependence to others have become inseparable. This process will become more stronger around the world, as the society develops more. The process has economic, scientific, socio-cultural, and political characteristics. During this process, people around the world can actively interact and communicate with each other. This relationship is related to the development of the Internet and social network.

2. How could we measure cultural globalization?

I think the measuring of cultural globalization is a tricky and challenging task. Globalization is becoming a topic of almost every academic discipline. Therefore, there are various definitions of globalization as well. What is generally accepted is that globalization is not an one-dimensional phenomenon but a multi-dimensional phenomenon. It is a political and economic phenomenon, both culturally and socially. How do we know when a particular society or country this country has become? What factors should be measured for globally available ‘globalization index’?In other classes with the ability to learn about data, I found the existence of data that measures the globalization index. Through research, I found this website that measured globalization in three dimensions: economic, social, and political. This website will help us measure the globalization index.

3. How could a fusion culture look in 100 years?

From time to time, the world fusion has been coined in our society and used throughout the culture. Cultural fusion is a mixture of two or more cultures combined that might look like an alternative. As society has become modernized and free from the coercion of separting as one different culture, the cultural fusion has become more popular. However, the cultural fusion did not just happen. It has been growing without anyone acknowledging. Without acknowleding, We have been accepting and combining the foreign culture with another. A great example could be the fusion music. A fusion music is a music genre which combines two or more genres, although it usually is used to refer to jazz fusion. For example, rock and roll originally developed as a fusion of blues, gospel and country music. Similarily, the new fusion culture will keep being created by trying to reinterpret the old culture by combining with the modern one. Cultural fusion will continue to be developed as the world is moving toward the 4th industrial revolution.

4. What is the most visible(successful) Korean elements in the world?

During class, a lot of classmates have metioned K-pop, but the first thing I came to my head was the IT industry. Of course, K-pop has become one of the most effective korean culture in the world, but IT industry emerged as another Korean cultural element. This is because the IT industry is the fastest growing industry since the restoration of national independence of Korea. Samsung is the most prominent player in the field. According to Wikipedia, it has grown to become a company equivalent to Apple.
Entering the information age, the IT industry is recognized as a more important industry. IT (Information Technology) is a type of intangible technology that forms the basis for social infrastructure, such as telecommunication, broadcasting, computing, and communications. Thanks to the enhancement of information technology, I think that K-pop could have been flourished. So I think information technology is the most important and successful element of Korea.
