Q1. How would we define globalization?

Due to the development of technology and the moral sophistication in every aspect of human life, people in the world interact more vibrantly than ever. Such development can be of communication, transportation technology and standard of lifestyle. Now that any product can be transported from any place in the world to another in just a few days, and messages can be transmitted right away, and people in less developed countries can experience anything that they want to interact with, if they have sufficient amount of money to pay for such. I believe this global phenomenon has strengthen the bond between cultures and countries then ever. Therefore, boosting the globalization.
As I have implied, I think we can say that those series of actions and process has not only accelerated the globalization, but the process itself is an excellent example of globalization. For example, gender issue in Korea has risen, and it is serious than ever before. This is a result of a development in communication technology such as social network service that can be represented by Facebook. Actions taken by feminists in Korea are salient and this is an aspect of intercultural interaction through social media, learning how feminists can claim their rights both in online community and real life.

Q2. How could a fusion culture look in 100 years?

Now that it is almost inevitable that each individual cultures mix up together, each cultures are not limited to a geographical district. That means, in 100 years, people will be able to communicate to certain level, even if they don’t have common language to introduce each other. Therefore, I believe that the nationality of one person does not define him/her any more. In other words, it is likely that a person will be defined for what he/she does, eats, wears, or buys. For example, people will have various selection when they want to act. Suppose that there is a guy living in a rural area of Italia, and he wants to have Korean diet for the rest of his life. He can easily look up recipes for Korean traditional foods and take that lifestyle for the rest of his life. I believe in the future, what matters most in a globalized society, is just what he does, or how he lives.
(This opinion is based on books about 4th industrial revolution, describing when almost every occupation get automized, people’s pattern of consumption will be the matter that defines him/her the most, that I read in the past.)

Q3. How could we measure cultural globalization?

It is always challenging to measure things or actions that are quantitative than qualitative. This is because while a quantitative object such as money, that is once spent, will never come back unless one earns them from another source. However, people’ s impressions toward an object or certain issue can change anytime. This means that you can never perfectly guess if a person will like what you show, such as video that you have uploaded on Youtube, forever.
Despite of the fact that you can never measure people’s beliefs, there are many tools that you can measure people’s instantaneous impressions. It can be done by counting up the number of ‘like’s, ‘share’s, optimistic comments, view counts(for videos), how many times the keyword has been searched, etc. Therefore it is possible to analyze or measure how a content from one culture was influential to another.

Q4. What is the most visible(successful) Korean elements in the world?

There are many aspects of Korean wave around the world, such as drama, K-pop, and recently K-hiphop, and foods(such as Kimchi and Chimaek). However, if I have to choose currently the most visible element, is definitely K-pop.
K-pop has first got recognized in mid 2000s in East Asian cultures because of familiarity to each of their own. This was due to the sophisticated dance moves, catchy melody that is easy to follow, and the great amount of effort to advertise. Now that, social media has grown up with huge influence, K-pop has only grown bigger in size with great influence to variety of audiences of different cultures around the world, including American and European. Also, besides of the quality of choreography and melody, K-pop has expended its scale with broader genres and the quality of music videos.
