W6. Cultural globalization / jinsol Park 2015048304

1. summary

To understand the meaning and nature of cultural globalization, first understand the definition of terminology.

First, globalization. This is highly multi-dimensional. Also, connect and integrate the world internationally. Globalization encompasses everything that characterizes modern life. Examples include capital, human beings, knowledge, and ideas. Now, we are living a much more cosmopolitan life in every aspect of everyday life. But the most important thing in recognizing globalization is economic. This is because the capitalist system is unable to escape global domination.
Clifford Geertz says " It is not a power, but it is a matter of life, ". Thus, culture can be interpreted as a contextual interpretation of events, and that is the cause of human organs. The result of globalization is understanding how regional behavior can become globalized.

Globalization can see the integration of connectivity in other areas. In particular, it is an economic activity that is bound to be tied up in the capitalist system. The increase in connectivity in the world is seen as an economic and political unification. However, it often causes problems. The economic losses of non-Western nations are cited as the example of the proliferation of Western capitalism. This is because Western domination and capitalism have a myriad of influence. This problem can be solved even in religion. So we should not have an unfair generalization.

Many countries are producing various literature. However, Marx says European opinions appear in the every literature. They destroy non-European cultures and evaluate literature in European traditions view. So we need a cultural understanding.

2. What was interesting?

I was interested in the concept of cosmopolitanism mentioned in the article.

It is a little difficult concept, but I could understand it through search. This concept is that appears mainly in international politics.
Human rights and norms are universal, and that values and norms are given to individuals over individual societies or nations. In this regard, international politics is based on individuals, not nations. For example, if there is a system in which an individual who has committed a humanitarian violation is brought to trial in an international court, it becomes a form of cosmopolitan international politics. It is the view that countries that violate basic values such as human rights should observe basic values even if they appeal to the international community.

3. Discussion point

The Internet and communication technologies on the planet now have a great impact on globalization in the region. Within three seconds, you can talk with people on the other side of the globe and know what is going on. These advantages exist, but we should also consider the side effects.
As mentioned in the article, those without economic power can not enjoy these advantages. We must think about how to improve these problems. It is also a matter of how to deal with the needs of people who do not want to know about their information. I want to know what professor and other friends think about this. There is more discussion than I think.

  1. As Internet technology advances, many side effects such as invasion of privacy and hacking always occur. These problems can be solved in a temporary manner, such as changing passwords or strengthening security. However, as the information age progressed, I thought that the benefits and disadvantages were compatible. I thought there was no clear solution. I also want to talk to other students about this matter.
